At Crew 3, we aim to reduce your concerns so you can get on with your life, leaving all the hard and dusty work to us.
We support the leading efforts of research, educational, agency, and community awareness teams to reduce risk to properties and build resilience. We recommend investing time to complete the Resilience Building Council app Resilience Ratings – Resilient Building Council and the TasFire calculator Tasmania Fire Service. If you require any assistance our team will assist in evaluation and provide a project quote.
Bushfires can attack your home in three ways:
Ember Attack
Radiant Heat
Direct Flame
Note, high winds and large debris are also considered.
For each of these attacks we assess properties in 3 zones:
The buildings and structures
The inner or landscape zone
The outer zone
We assess all elements that are in direct contact with or part of your home.
Decking: We determine the materials used and their fire resistance. Install new as required.
Screening: We check for adequate screens over windows, vents, and underfloor spaces to prevent ember penetration.
Gaps around the Building: We look for and recommend sealing or reducing gaps to less than 2mm where embers could enter.
Windows: We evaluate and potentially replace the type of windows and their frames, ensuring they are designed to withstand heat and ember attack.
Cladding: We assess the materials used for the exterior walls and their ability to resist fire. Then offer solutions as determined.
Gutters and downpipes: We check for buildup of debris and recommend gutter guards to minimize the risk of fire.
This zone is critical for creating a defensible space. We focus on:
Screening: We ensure that any openings around the home are adequately protected.
Paths: We evaluate and implement the placement and materials of paths to ensure they do not lead flames directly to the home.
Water pumps and sprinklers: We offer solutions for readiness in creating a defendable space.
Combustibles: We consider the safe storage and positioning of combustible materials like firewood, propane tanks, and outdoor furniture.
Landscaping: If you can imagine it, we can build it, grow it and maintain it. A purposefully designed low risk landscape close to buildings is critical to preventing direct flame contact.
Lawns and yard cleanups: We clean up yards and keep lawns trimmed, we have slashers and zero turn equipment.
This zone serves as the first line of defence. We focus on approximately 20 metres from structures, depending on the slope, likely direction of fire, surrounding hazards.
Shrubs: We do general maintenance to reduce fire spread and appropriate removal and planting guides,
Access Roads: We check for clear and accessible roads for emergency services and safe evacuation routes and provide solutions.
Trees: We provide maintenance of trees to reduce the risk of fire reaching your home.
Passive Risk Reduction and Active Protection Systems: talk to us to explain how we approach each zone and solution

The Crew 3 team, as project management professionals, know that every great project starts with accurate and up-to-date information. We recommend following the guidance from emergency providers and research teams.
We advise you invest time into completing the home rating self-assessment app by the Resilience Building Council, then contact Crew 3 to assist you in making the best decisions to protect yourself, assets and family.
We aim to support programs that focus on the wellness of emergency service volunteers and their families. Our goal is to assist in their return-to-work journeys and to address the stigmas surrounding mental health recovery. We maintain this focus while practically applying our knowledge of bushfire resilience and preparation.
3 ways mental illness injury occurs:
an event – accumulatively – vicariously
3 sectors working together:
government – social – private
to bring out the best aspects of all and create a social enterprise
3 parts of the whole:
preparation – response – recovery
3 ways a fire can attack your property:
ember – radiation – flames
3 steps together:
the problem – the solution – the action
(or as we love to call it, the doing)
